This Holiday Season,
Give Where it Heals
Support long-term recovery in Yancey and Mitchell Counties.
Recovery is not a single moment. It is the daily work of rebuilding stability, restoring health and creating access to care and support that lasts long after disaster response ends.
About Mountain Strong:
Mountain Strong is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to long-term recovery and resilience in Yancey and Mitchell Counties. Born in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our work has grown from urgent relief to sustained investment in the health, safety, and future of our mountain communities.
Since launching, we’ve raised over $725,000 and directed it toward projects that make an immediate difference for families while laying the foundation for long-term recovery.
Over the last year, Mountain Strong has contributed:
Over $100,000 in emergency supplies and immediate assistance, including water, food, generators, heaters, work equipment, gas, and propane
Thousands of units of medical supplies, including antibiotics and diabetic medication
Over $100,000 in direct financial assistance to families in need
Over $100,000 in completed and allocated construction and roadway repairs
$10,000 in scholarships for Yancey and Mitchell seniors
Facilitated the donation of 6 vehicles, 2 campers, and 1 mobile home
Over $7,000 in donations to schools and educators
Over $13,000 for holiday meals and $20,000 in Christmas gifts and seasonal support for families
$10,000 to combat food insecurity
Current initiatives include:
Opening the Mountain Strong Free Clinic in Burnsville, with an emphasis on mental health, preventative care and health education (coming early 2026)
Addressing food insecurity and other essential support for those still struggling in the wake of the storm
Strategic plans to further address mental health and other needs in Yancey and Mitchell Counties
