The Mountain Strong Scholarship

The Mountain Strong Recovery Network is proud to offer two (2) $5,000 scholarships to high school seniors from Yancey and Mitchell counties who are planning to pursue a career in healthcare and give back to our communities.

These scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance for continuing education, whether that’s college, vocational training, or another career-focused program in a healthcare-related field.

This is our way of investing in the future of our community and supporting students as they take the next step toward achieving their goals.

Applications are due April 17.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the Moving Mountains: Mountain Strong Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a graduating senior from a high school in Yancey or Mitchell County, or a homeschooled full-time resident of Yancey and Mitchell County with proof of expected completion of at least a 12th grade curriculum.

  • Are planning to pursue education in a healthcare-related field.

  • Plan to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited college, university, or vocational program.

Application Details

As part of your application, you will need to submit the following:

  1. Personal Information

    1. Full name and contact information (including address of permanent residency in Yancey or Mitchell County)

  2. Personal Statement

    • Write a 250-word minimum - 500 word maximum personal statement addressing the following:

      • What sort of healthcare-related career path you’re planning to follow and why

      • What you intend to do with this degree or certification

  3. Supporting Documents

    • High School Transcript

    • Letter of Recommendation (from a teacher, counselor, or community leader)

    • Proof of Application or Enrollment in a Post-Secondary Program

Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted by April 17, 2025. Recipients will be notified by April 24, 2026.
