Our Impact

Mountain Strong is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to long-term recovery and resilience in Yancey and Mitchell Counties. Born in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our work has grown from urgent relief to sustained investment in the health, safety, and future of our mountain communities.

Since launching, we’ve raised over $500,000 and directed it toward projects that make an immediate difference for families while laying the foundation for long-term recovery.

Over the last year, Mountain Strong has contributed:

  • Over $100,000 in emergency supplies and immediate assistance, including water, food, generators, heaters, work equipment, gas, and propane

  • Thousands of units of medical supplies, including antibiotics and diabetic medication

  • Over $100,000 in direct financial assistance to families in need

  • Over $100,000 in completed and allocated construction and roadway repairs

  • $10,000 in scholarships for Yancey and Mitchell seniors

  • Facilitated the donation of 6 vehicles, 2 campers, and 1 mobile home

  • Over $7,000 in donations to schools and educators

  • Over $13,000 for holiday meals and $20,000 in Christmas gifts and seasonal support for families

Our current intiatives include:

  • Repairing damaged driveways and critical access points to restore safe, reliable transportation for families

  • Reopening a former field hospital as a free community clinic with an emphasis on mental health and preventative care

  • Developing strategic plans to further address mental health and other critical needs in Yancey and Mitchell Counties
